Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 16, 2009)—The USA Cycling National Development Team’s Taylor Phinney (Boulder, Colo./Trek-LIVESTRONG) finished 11th in La Côte Picarde, a UCI Nation’s Cup race held on Feb. 15 in France.
One of 14 U23 riders spending the month of April racing with the national team throughout Europe, Phinney was the highest-placed American, finishing in the main peloton 34 seconds off the pace of solo winner Timofey Kritskiy (RUS).
Cole House (Oneida, Wis./BMC Racing), another rider who has enjoyed recent success with a win earlier this month at the G.P. Waragem, also turned in a top-20 performance, finishing 17th and in the same group as Phinney.
Other national team performances included Peter Stetina (Boulder, Colo./Holowesko Partners-Felt) in 33rd, Taylor Shelden (Breckenridge, Colo./Holowesko Partners-Felt) in 35th, Kirk Carlsen (Boulder, Colo./Holowesko Partners-Felt) in 40th and Peter Salon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Holowesko Partners-Felt) in 56th.
The USA Cycling National Development Team will next compete in the U23 version of Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Saturday. The roster has not yet been determined.
