Development Team alum Farrar wins Stage 3 of Tirreno-Adriatico

Santa Croche sull’Arno, Italy (March 13, 2009) - Former USA Cycling National Development Team rider Tyler Farrar (Wenatchee, Wash.), 24, scored one of the biggest wins of his career on Friday, taking stage three of Tirreno-Adriatico, a seven-stage race on the UCI’s world calendar.

 

In sprinting to victory, Farrar surged past arguably the international peloton’s fastest sprinter, Mark Cavendish (GBR), at the finish line of the 1660 kilometer stage from Fucecchio to Santa Croche sull’Arno.

 

Farrar is one of several young Americans who earned his place on a UCI ProTour roster after a U23 career on USA Cycling’s European-based National Development Team.

 

Friday’s stage win marks his most significant victory to date in addition to a stage win at the Tour de Poitou-Charentes last fall, and stage wins at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2004 and 2005.
