Colorado Springs, Colo. (March 2, 2009) - USA Cycling announced today its four-person squad for the upcoming 2009 UCI Track World Championships in Pruszkow, Poland, March 25-29.

Taylor Phinney (Boulder, Colo.) earned an automatic nomination to contest both the men’s 4,000-meter individual pursuit and kilometer time trial. Last month, Phinney broke the U.S. national record in both events, clocking a 4:15.223 in the pursuit and a 1:01.641 in the kilo. Both marks earned him an automatic start at the world championships.

Phinney will also compete in the omnium competition, a five-race event which consists of a 200-meter time trial, a 7.5-kilometer scratch race, a 15-kilometer points race, a 3,000-meter individual pursuit and a kilometer time trial.

The men’s mass-start endurance races will be contested by discretionary selections Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif.) and Colby Pearce (Boulder, Colo.). The two will team up for the Madison, while each will also contest an individual event – Holloway the scratch race and Pearce the points race.

Shelley Olds (Scotts Valley, Calif.) is the lone women’s selection. After winning a bronze medal in the points race at the World Cup finale last month, Olds earned a discretionary selection to compete in both the points and scratch race events.
