Frank Travieso wins the fierce sprint to the finish in the NRC's final race of 2009, the U.S. 100K Classic in suburban Atlanta.
The U.S. 100K Classic wrapped up the 2009 USA Cycling Racing Calendar in Marietta, Ga. with Frank Travieso (Athens, Ga./Championship Porsche) taking the fierce downill sprint victory. In the short and fast 10K women's race, sprinter Erica Allar (Fogelsville, Pa./BMW-Bianchi) took advantage of an early Tibco - ValuAct duel and jumped at precisely the right moment to win the dash to the line. With many of the NRC's leaders preparing to contest the Tour of Missouri, there was little change in the top of the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar standings following the calendar's final event last weekend. Tom Zirbel (Boulder, Colo./Bissell) was able to squeak out the overall men's NRC title by only seven points ahead of Lucas Sebastian Haedo (ARG/Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light). The Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking Light men's squad earned the men's team title by a comfortable 300-point margin. Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./Team Type I) long-secured the individual 2009 National Racing Calendar title on the women's side, but Team TIBCO edged her Team Type I squad in the women's team standings.
