Personal
With a penchant for traveling, camping and the outdoors, Mary McConneloug typifies the image of a quintessential mountain biker. After a breakthrough season in 2003 which saw her win her first National Series race, a silver medal at the Pan American Games and a national cross country title, Mary represented the U.S. at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and continues to be one of the most talented off-road cyclists in the nation.
Born as the middle child of five kids, Mary possessed musical talents at a young age. After growing up playing the piano and taking voice lessons, Mary went on to receive an undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance at Santa Clara University in 1993. Upon graduation, Mary performed with various choral groups and waited tables. Four years later, she discovered the sport of mountain biking while living in Seattle. By 1998, her dominance in the Pacific Northwest Racing scene launched her into the pro ranks where she met Michael Broderick, her current partner and fellow Olympic hopeful. Together the two riders secured a sponsorship deal with Kenda-Seven Cycles (USA) as the only two members of its professional mountain bike program. The couple often calls their van home as they travel around North America to compete on the domestic mountain bike circuit together.
Mary is an avid environmentalist who uses her bike as a primary means of transportation and makes an effort to purchase environmentally-friendly products and food.
