Personal

Steven Cisar is possibly the best American BMX rider that nobody's heard of. Often times overshadowed by the depth of the talent pool in the United States, Steven has consistently posted solid results on the domestic circuit before a breakthrough performance at the international level resulted in a bronze medal at the Madrid World Cup in February of 2008. And with a near-miss at the podium for a fourth-place finish at the 2007 UCI BMX World Championships, it's only a matter of time until Steven Cisar becomes a household name in the action sports community.

At just 21 years of age, Steven is the youngest of the 2008 U.S. Olympic hopefuls. Like many others who got their start in the sport at an early age, he began competing at the age of eight. He's been racing ever since, except for a brief hiatus to pursue a career as a professional motocross rider. While moving himself up through the ranks, Steven first realized his potential as a world-class rider when he finished sixth at the 2006 UCI BMX World Championships as an amateur and later complemented that result with a win in the time trial qualifier at the 2007 Madrid World Cup. His recent performances earned him a spot in USA Cycling's resident athlete program where he lives and trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

Away from the rigors of training, traveling and constant competition, Steven simply likes to hang out with friends and family, ride trails and longboard.

Points of Interest

  • If Steven wasn't a BMX athlete, he'd be pursuing a career in a similar field as a professional motocross racer.
  • Following his career as a competitor, Steven hopes to continue working in the industry with a well-established BMX manufacturer.
